Biskop Repo

Matti Repo är Tammerfors stifts 36:e biskop. Han vigdes till sitt ämbete år 2008.

Matti Tauno Antero Repo föddes 7.3.1959 i S:t Michel. Han prästvigdes i Tammerfors år 1985. Repo tjänstgjorde som präst i Messuby församling under åren 1985–2002. Från 2002 arbetade Repo som sekreterare för teologiska ärenden på Kyrkostyrelsens utrikesavdelning, ända tills han vigdes till biskop år 2008.

Under åren 1992–1993 och 1995 arbetade Repo som forskare i teologiska fakulteten vid Helsingfors universitet. År 1999 bjöds han in som projektsekreterare för Jubelåret 2000 i Tammerfors kyrkliga samfällighet. År 2001 utnämndes Repo till sekreterare i huvudsyssla för kyrkans ämbetsstrukturkommitté som tillsatts av kyrkomötet.

Matti Repo disputerade för teologie doktorsgraden år 1997. Hans doktorsavhandling handlade om rättfärdiggörelseläran i Johann Arndts teologi. Sedan 2007 har han tjänstgjort som docent i dogmatik på teologiska fakulteten vid Helsingfors universitet.

 

Biskopens uppgifter

Biskopen har den högsta tillsynen över församlingarna och prästerskapet. Hans uppgift är värna om kyrkans enhet och främja fullgörandet av kyrkans uppgift i stiftet.

Biskopen leder administrationen och verksamheten i sitt stift och är ordförande för domkapitlet.

Syftet med biskopsvisitationerna som biskopen utför i församlingarna är att hjälpa församlingen att uppfylla Kristi vittnesbörd och tjänstens mission på sin egen ort.

Biskopen installerar kyrkoherdarna, inviger kyrkor, kyrkogårdar och begravningskapell samt förrättar invigningar till kyrkans präst- och diakonämbeten.

Biskop Repo har också många förtroendeuppdrag, både inom Finland och utomlands.

 

Bishop Repo

Matti Repo is the 36th Bishop of the Diocese of Tampere, Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. He was ordained to the office in 2008.

Matti Tauno Antero Repo was born on 7 March 1959 in Mikkeli. He was ordained priest in 1985 in Tampere. Repo served as a pastor in Messukylä parish between 1985–2002. From 2002, Repo was the Executive secretary for theology at the Office of the Church Council and responsible for ecumenical dialogues with other churches until his consecration as a bishop in 2008.

Between 1992–1993 and in 1995, Repo worked as a researcher in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Helsinki. In 1999, he was invited to serve the Tampere Parish Union as a project secretary for Jubilee year 2000 and, in 2001, the Church Council as a full-time secretary for the committee on diaconate reform appointed by the General Synod.

Matti Repo graduated with a Doctorate in Theology in 1997. His doctoral thesis discussed the doctrine of justification in the theology of Johann Arndt. Since 2007, he has been an Associate professor of dogmatics at the University of Helsinki Faculty of Theology. He has several publications on ecumenism, ecclesiology and ministry.

Bishop Repo has served as an Advisor to the Lutheran World Federation Council and as a member in the Commission for Churches in Dialogue of the Conference of European Churches. He is presently a Vice Chair to the Finnish Ecumenical Council, Lutheran Co-Chair of the Porvoo Contact Group and a part of the Board of Trustees in the Institute for Ecumenical Research (Strasbourg).

Bishop Matti Repo is married to Revd Päivi Repo. They have four grown up children and four grandchildren.

 

The bishop’s duties

The bishop is the spiritual overseer of parishes and priests in his or her diocese. It is the bishop’s duty to defend the unity of the church and advance the fulfilment of its mission in his or her diocese.

The bishop also presides over the diocese’s administration and activities and serves as chair of the diocesan chapter.

The purpose of bishop’s visitations to parishes is to help parishes fulfil the mission of testimony and service given by Christ within their own locality.

The bishop instates vicars, consecrates churches, cemeteries and chapels and ordains pastors and deacons.

Bishop Repo also serves in a number of positions of trust in Finland and internationally.

 

Bischof Repo

Matti Repo ist der 36. Bischof der Diözese Tampere. Er wurde 2008 zum Bischof geweiht.

Matti Tauno Antero Repo wurde am 7.3.1959 in Mikkeli geboren. Zum Priester wurde er 1985 in Tampere geweiht. Von 1985 bis 2002 war Repo als Priester in der Gemeinde Messukylä tätig. Ab 2002 war Repo bis zu seinem Amtsantritt als Bischof 2008 Sekretär für theologische Angelegenheiten der Abteilung für Auswärtiges der Kirchenverwaltung.

Von 1992 bis 1993 und 1995 war Repo als Forscher an der theologischen Fakultät der Universität Helsinki tätig. 1999 wurde er zum Projektsekretär des Gemeindeverbandes Tampere für das Jubeljahr 2000 und 2001 zum hauptberuflichen Sekretär des vom Kirchenrat eingesetzten Ausschusses für Laufbahnstruktur berufen.

Seinen Doktor der Theologie machte Matti Repo 1997. Seine Dissertation befasste sich mit der Rechtfertigungslehre der Theologie von Johann Arndt. Seit 2007 ist er Dozent für Dogmatik an der theologischen Fakultät der Universität Helsinki.

 

Die Aufgaben eines Bischofs

Der Bischof ist in seiner Diözese der oberste Hirte von Gemeinden und Priestern. Seine Aufgabe ist es, die Einheit der Kirche zu bewahren und die Mission der Kirche in seiner Diözese zu fördern.

Der Bischof leitet die Verwaltung und Tätigkeit seiner Diözese und fungiert als Vorsitzender des Domkapitels.

Zweck der bischöflichen Untersuchungen, die der Bischof in den Gemeinden durchführt, ist es, der Gemeinde bei der Umsetzung des Zeugnisses und des Dienstes Christi vor Ort zu helfen.

Der Bischof setzt Pfarrer ein, weiht Kirchen, Friedhöfe und Segenskapellen ein und führt Weihen von Priestern und Diakonen durch.

Bischof Repo hat auch zahlreiche Ehrenämter im In- und Ausland.
